Shahieda Adams is an associate professor in the Division of Occupational Medicine, School of Public Health and Family Medicine at UCT and the Consultant Occupational Medicine Specialist, in the Occupational Medicine clinic at GSH. She hold a joint appointment in: Western Cape Government, Department of Health and University of Cape Town.
She is currently the Director of the Centre for Environmental and Occupational Health Research and is Chair of the Division of Occupational Medicine in the College of Public Health Medicine for the CMSA.
She holds the following qualifications: MBChB (UCT), MFamMed (US), DOH MMed (Occupational Medicine), FCPHM (Occupational Medicine) and PhD (Public Health);
She is engaged in training of occupational medicine specialists and has diverse research interests ranging form:
- The role of immunodiagnostics in TB screening programmes for high- risk populations and policy development for healthcare workers to protect against tuberculosis in healthcare facilities
- Clinical occupational medicine and fitness to work
- Standardized approaches to assessing impairment and disability in workers
- Mental health in the workplace
- Occupational lung diseases in mine workers
