Dr. Julie Bolcaen is a postdoctoral researcher at the Radiation Biophysics Division at NRF iThemba LABS in South Africa since May 2019. Her main research focus lies in the field of radiobiology and theranostics with the goal to validate new cancer radiosensitizers and radiopharmaceuticals preclinically. Dr. Bolcaen graduated as a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences - Medical Radiation Sciences at Ghent University (magna cum laude) in 2011 and obtained her Ph.D. in Health Sciences at Ghent University (Belgium) in 2017. During her Ph.D. she performed clinical and preclinical research in the field of molecular imaging of brain tumours at the department of Nuclear Medicine of Ghent University Hospital. She has contributed to 20 peer-reviewed publications, including 11 as a first author. She is a member of SARS and SNMMI and received a young investigator award at the ICRR in 2019.
