Scientific Activity
Research focuses on the development of bioinformatics tools and statistical approaches to facilitate the interpretation of data generated from high-throughput platforms, including metabolomics and genomics data. Work has been concentrated on developing exploratory approaches to data mining, especially those geared toward the discovery of patterns in the data for exploratory tasks. Dr. Cacciatore developed KODAMA as a method of performing feature extraction on noisy and high-dimensional data, such as transcriptomic and metabolomics data. This versatile method has been successfully applied in the discovery of unidentified metabolic phenotypes associated with a short survival time in cancer patients.
