EC teaches Applied Ecology within the M.Sc in Biotechnology. Her research addresses the biology and ecology of Teleost fishes, with special focus on the study of migration and behavior patterns of fish species of commercial interest in transitional waters, and of diadromous fish of conservation interest. Within her research activity, EC addresses applied aspects such as management and conservation of living aquatic resources, protection of aquatic ecosystems, environmental impacts in aquatic environments, setting up of sustainable production models. She has been dealing with topics such as restoration and management of endangered fish stocks and species in inland and transitional waters. EC collaborates with the FAO General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM), the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), the Italian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies (MIPAAF), and with Italian regional and local Administrations, for themes of her expertise.
Within her teaching activity, EC meets an international audience of students from Asia, Africa, South America, and she has dedicated to the development of innovative and inclusive methods of teaching. These revolve around class activities and collective work on issues such as the role of science in society, the perspective of sustainability in the exploitation of resources and production models, the role of biotechnologies in sustainable development models.
