Virgil-Florin Duma is professor at the "Aurel Vlaicu" University of Arad (AVU), Romania, and director of its Research Center in Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics. He proposed in 2008 the 3OM field (in Opto-Mechatronics, Opto-Mechanics and Optical Metrology). He is head and founder of the 3OM Group at AVU. He received his PhD from the Polytechnic University of Timisoara (UPT) in 2001, where he graduate valedictorian in Fine Mechanics & Optics in 1991. He was awarded in 2009-2010 a Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship at The Institute of Optics, University of Rochester, NY, USA, where he is Visiting Researcher. Also, he is honorary professor at the University of Kent, UK, as well as adjunct professor at several universities, including at UPT as PhD advisor. He is author of more than 60 journal papers in WOS (with a cumulated impact factor of more than 130), more than 150 conference papers in WOS, 15 books, and 2 patents. Prof. Duma delivered more than 50 invited lectures at universities and conferences (including as Fulbright or SPIE Visiting Lecturer). He is reviewer of more than 40 WOS journals, of several grant programs, and has been chair of several SPIE conferences, including "Advances in 3OM". His research interests are in optomechatronics, measuring systems, as well as imaging techniques and applications. Prof. Duma is member of OSA, senior member of SPIE, and life member of the Fulbright Association.
