Ms Ashley Eugley
Watson Fellow, Watson Foundation
CV
Ashley Eugley graduated with her B.A. in Environmental and Urban Studies from Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York (USA) in 2022. She is the recipient of a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship for her project “Community Science as Community Agency.” As part of the fellowship, Eugley is currently traveling for a year to engage with participatory science projects around the globe. Her work explores how community-based science may be leveraged to monitor change, combat environmental injustice, enhance resilience, and bolster agency. Eugley is a strong proponent of taking science out of the labs and into society.
During her time at Bard, Eugley was a member of the Socially Responsibile Investment Committee, a Program Leader in the Office of Sustainability, and a Student Fellow with the OSUN Economic Democracy Initative. Her undergraduate thesis, “The Elusive Rainbow Nation: Assessing Post-Apartheid Reconstruction Strategies in Johannesburg, South Africa” critically examines the persistence of inequality in Johannesburg during the post-Apartheid era as a product of neoliberal restructuring and globalization.
Eugley received multiple awards throughout her academic training. These include the Rachel Carson Prize (2022); the Margaret and John Bard Scholars Prize (2022); the Milners Scholar Award (2020); and the Richard D. and Nancy M. Griffiths Scholar Award (2019).
