Thomas Hormenu, Ph.D. is a lecturer from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. Dr. Hormenu is a fellow of the African Postdoctoral Training Initiative (APTI-Cohort 1). Dr. Hormenu worked at the Section for Ethnicity and Health, NIDDK under the mentorship of Anne E. Sumner, MD. His research explored psychosocial determinants of cardiometabolic health in African immigrants.
In Ghana, Dr. Hormenu is currently developing a prospective study to determine the prevalence of undiagnosed diabetes and prediabetes and apply evidence-based efficacious, culturally-sensitive lifestyle interventions to decrease the social, familial, and personal cost of diabetes in Ghana. He is interested in building collaborative relationships and forming research consortiums with teams of experts in academia, clinicians, and other health professionals to conduct research to develop innovative African-based lifestyle interventions that focus on diabetes remission and prevention. Dr. Hormenu is establishing a Cardiometabolic Health Research Center at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana through the support of BMGF and the African Academy of Sciences.
