CV
I first joined the research team in Medical Malacology Lab in Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI), Egypt, as a specialist. Since then, I have developed strong interests in studying snails biology and their medical importance through being an intermediate host for many parasites such Schistosoma sp. Moreover, I used many snail species as a bioindicator for environmental pollution. I have published about 8 papers in which using different species of snails and bivalves as animal models to study the impact of different environmental pollutants including lab, semi-field, and field studies.
I earned my Ph.D. from both Vrije University, Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Suez Canal University, Egypt (Joint supervision). During my work in Amsterdam, I used to deal with the oldest snail culturing facility in Europe as daily routine work.
While pursuing research in these areas, I also worked as a Technical Assistant at Schistosome Biological Supply Centre (SBSC), which was established in 1989 at Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI) through a research collaborative agreement between the institute and Massachusetts -Lowell University, USA. Through this work, I used to prepare the biological material (Schistosoma & Fasciola), their utilization and maintenance in operational research as well as caring/breeding for experimental animals.
