Sonia Ibrahim is an architect and urban researcher with a focus on urban heritage and the recovery of post-war historic cities. In her master’s research, she investigated the post-war recovery of World heritage cities in Syria. Since 2012 she has been working as a conservation architect at the Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums supervising various rehabilitation projects in different world heritage cities in Syria and participating in the restoration project of Damascus Citadel during the war. In addition, she was an Assistant lecturer at Damascus University for 6 years contributing to various educational programs about historic preservation. Currently, a Ph.D. candidate at “Marcel Breuer Doctoral School of Architecture”.

In her latest publication, "3D Heritage as a catalyst for social participation in safeguarding cities in conflict. A Case study of Damascus in Syria" she introduced a framework for educational instructions that took Damascus as a case study and was oriented toward raising awareness about heritage in danger and create emotional attachments between the students and their heritage as incentives that inspire communities to protect endangered heritage.
