Dr. Dacquin Kasumba is a published immunologist studying host-microbe interactions to improve and developpe mitigation approaches against infectious diseases in general, and viral diseases.  

After obtaining his MSc in South Africa, he obtained his PhD in cellular and molecular immunology from Kyoto University (Institute for Virus Research) in Japan under Dr. Takashi Fujita. His PhD work focused on antiviral immune response driven by RIG-I-like immune receptors. He went on to work as a Postdoc in the Immunopathology service of the Research Center of Centre Hospitalier de l'Universite de Montreal. His interest was focused on clarifying inflammatory mechanisms in respiratory virus diseases. After completing his postdoc, he moved to the National Institute of Health (NIH) in the USA, as a visiting fellow at the Vaccine Research Center. At the NIH, under the supervision of Dr. Nancy Sullivan, he studied the immune mechanisms in emerging and re-emerging viral diseases such as Ebola virus disease and COVID-19. 

Since 2021, Dr. Dacquin Kasumba is a funded scientist in the Division of Clinical Immunology of the National Institute for Biomedical Research (INRB) in his native country DRC. He is also an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine of University of Kinshasa in DRC. He is an ARISE-EU (AAS) fellow who is working to establish his research niche within the continent to support policy making and help improve disease mitigations in the continent and in DRC in particular.
