Prof Thashree Marimuthu is a NRF Y rated researcher and Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology at the University of the Witwatersrand. She is the co-chair for the The South African Young Academy of Science (SAYAS). Thashree completed undergraduate degrees in Pure and Applied Chemistry (BSc, BSc Hons, University of KwaZulu-Natal, 2006), a doctorate degree in Chemistry (MSc upgraded to PhD, University of KwaZulu-Natal, 2012), and PI at the Wits Advanced Drug Delivery Platform (WADDP) Research Unit at the University of the Witwatersrand. Prof Marimuthu’s current research is focussed on the molecular engineering of precise systems for therapeutic applications in the health care industry, with demonstrated expertise in the fields of homogenous catalysis, biopolymers, metal-ligand bio-actives, and inorganic and organic biomaterials. She is a recognised mentor, who draws upon modern pedagogy and innovative teaching and learning practices for the instruction and supervision of undergraduate and post-graduate students.
