Chérif F. Matta, PhD, HDR, FRSA, FRSB, FInstP, FRSC, FAAS, FAAAS, is Professor and Head of the Dept. of Chemistry & Physics at Mount Saint Vincent University & Adjunct Professor at Dalhousie, Laval, Saint Mary’s Universities, and at Zewail City for Science and Technology. Prof. Matta holds a B.Sc. from Alexandria Univ., a PhD from McMaster Univ., and a Habilitation from Université de Lorraine. He held postdoctoral positions at the University of Toronto and Dalhousie University. His research ranges from theoretical chemistry to mitochondrial biophysics. His accolades include the “Distinguished Visiting Professorship” by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education, “Science Atlantic Speaker of the Year”, his University’s Award for Research Excellence, Lady Davis Fellow, the NSERC-Acfas “Preuve par l’image” Prize, Molecular Graphics and Molecular Simulation Society Silver Jubilee Prize, John C. Polanyi Prize in Chemistry, and the Killam Fellowship. He is Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Fellow of the Institute of Physics, Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, and Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts. He is the outgoing Chair of the Interdisciplinary Adjudication Committee of the Canada Research Chairs, a Member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Society for Chemistry, a Member of the Commission for Quantum Crystallography of the International Union of Crystallography, and Associate Editor of Foundation of Chemistry.
