Columbus Mavhunga is a Harare-based freelance journalist for VOA’s Africa Service, CNN, Deutsche Welle and Deutsche Presse Agentur.

He has been a journalist since 2000.

Columbus studied Mass Communication at the Harare Polytechnic College, before enrolling for a Communication Degree with University of South Africa. Last year he finished M. Sc. (Development Studies) with the Women’s University in Africa.

He is a board member of Media Institute of Southern Africa (Misa Zimbabwe) and he is the chairperson of Health Journalists Association of Zimbabwe (HeJAZ).  As a journalist, he is an all rounder – "I can cover any story, any subject. But since completing my M. Sc. (Development Studies) I have developed an inclination towards environment issues. Being in Zimbabwe, issues of resilience science are of importance as the country has been exposed to climate change and other vagaries of the weather," he says.
