Tlhabanyane Mogatosi is a candidate for Master of Development Studies, from the University of the Western Cape. He holds a BA (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of the Western Cape, with majors in Sociology, Psychology, and Ethics. And a BA Hons in Sociology, from the University of the Western Cape. 

 

His research interests are food security, obesity, and physical activity. 

 

Mogatosi received a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship, which involved a month-long research training hosted at Emory University, GA. 

 

During his Hons research, he conducted research into student food insecurity and presented the research at Bryn Mawr College, during the 2016 MMUF-SSRC Graduate Student Summer

Conference and at the 'National colloquium on access to food for students in South African tertiary institutions' in 2018.

 

His passion for the topic of food security and hunger lead to him being awarded a bursary by the Centre of Excellence in Food Security, where he was part of the research team that published a report into obesity and food choices in Khayelitsha and Obesity. This data formed part of his masters thesis where he focused on obesity from an energy balance perspective. 

 

Mogatosi is expected to graduate in Dec 2022 and enrol for his PhD.
