CV
Phanankosi Moyo holds a PhD in Biochemistry attained at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Following the successful attainment of his PhD, Phanankosi took up two Postdoctoral Fellowships (from October 2017 to June 2021), supported by the University of Pretoria Institute of Sustainable Malaria Control and DST/NRF SARChI Chair in Sustainable Malaria Control. His research was focused on the discovery and development of antimalarial drugs, targeting both intra-erythrocytic asexual and sexual stages, from natural products. He is a currently working as a Postdoctoral Fellow, affiliated to the Department of Chemistry at the University of Pretoria, in the Bioprospecting group under the mentorship of Professor V. Maharaj. His Postdoctoral work is centered on exploring natural products in search for novel drugs for the treatment of multiple diseases including Covid19 and tropical diseases including malaria. This further extends to the search for agents that can either reverse drug resistance or target alternative mechanisms of overcoming antibacterial resistance including inhibition of biofilm formation.
