Simbarashe Mudzivo was born on February 3, 1978 in Mvuma, Zimbabwe. After completing high school education I served in the military where I developed a passion for current affairs. I then studed for a B. A degree in Media studies at Zimbabwe Open University and graduated in 2013. I then worked as a news reporter for both print and electronic media at public media houses under a staff development program, a special arrangement between the army and the public media houses. I covered environmental issues affecting communities within Zimbabwe, extensively covering stories around mining communities where gold panning activities by companies and individuals had become a menance to the environment. During the period, an environmental regulatory authority in Zimbabwe using the information from the media embarked on serious campaigns, educating communities on the effects of environmental degradation as a result of illegal mining activities. Also Statutory Instruments to review fines on environmental related offences were enacted to deter illegal mining activities. In 2019 I left both the military and the mainstream media to work as a Freelance journalist. I have continued to pursue science related stories reporting for local radio stations on environmental issues. I also studied for a certificate in Strategic Public relations and business promotion key to helping me as a Freelance journalist when engaging communities and currently I am studying for MSc in Governance and Leadership.
