CV
I spent 15 years in academic, private, and government research in the US, specializing in behavioral and psychiatric genetics in human and non-human primate models. Within this domain, I was particularly interested in gene-by-environment interactions on endophenotypes underlying mood and psychiatric disorders. Along the way, I have maintained my passion for old-school primate behavioral field research, employing video capture for data collection.
I moved to South Africa in 2006. After six months at the Universities of Cape Town and Stellenbosch, I transitioned to working within the South African government's parastatal system to support its National Systems of Innovation. For eight years, I helped source, assess, fund and support health biotechnology investments, specializing in medical devices, diagnostics, and complementary medicines derived from indigenous plant resources. I then moved into the business development of technology platforms focused on Omics technology. For the last five years, I have explicitly concentrated on implementing Omics infrastructure solutions to support the national South African Bio-economy strategy.
When not working, I pursue road cycling, hiking, and photography and enjoy reading almost anything on behavioral economics.
