Prof. Catherine Ngila

Prof Ngila is currently the Acting Executive Director of The African Academy of Sciences (AAS). She provides leadership and strategic direction of The AAS’s programmatic and operational management whose vision is to transform lives in Africa through science.
She is a Visiting Professor at both the University of Johannesburg and Nairobi; Former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Riara University; Deputy Director of the Institute of Oil and Gas, Kenya Pipeline Company; Head of Applied Chemistry Department at University of Johannesburg; Has worked at Universities of KwaZulu Natal, Botswana and Kenyatta. She is a Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences, The Africa Academy of Sciences (AAS), and Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf); Co-Chair 2021 Commonwealth Science Conference; Mentor for Mastercard Foundation; Member of various chemical societies and professional organizations.
She has won various Awards; 2021 L'Oréal-UNESCO For International Women in Science Awards for water research; 2017 African Union Kwame Nkrumah East Africa Regional Women Scientific Award; 2016 South Africa (SA) Distinguished Women in Science Awards. She has received various Awards from South Africa National Research Foundation, Water Research Commission, and Council for Scientific for Industrial Research.
