Dr Elizabeth Njuguna
Postdoctoral Research Fellow, International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology
CV
Elizabeth holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from Ghent University, Belgium, an MSc in Molecular Biology from KU Leuven University, Belgium, and a BSc in Biochemistry and Chemistry from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.
Her current research focuses on promoting safe and sustainable means of pest control through programs geared towards enhancing the use of biopesticides as part of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies. She seeks to identify the policy, regulatory, technical and other barriers impacting biopesticides research, development, registration, commercialization, and adoption in sub-Saharan Africa and provides feasible recommendations to overcome the barriers and enhance biopesticide uptake in the region.
Dr. Njuguna, also, has about eight years of experience in crop genetic improvement using modern biotechnology tools including CRISPR gene editing technology which she used in modifying genes in maize to study drought tolerance.
She is also passionate about science engagement and clarification of scientific facts especially around genetic modification and crop genetic improvement which she does through participation in various science communication forums.
