Dr Wanja Njuguna is a Senior Lecturer, Journalism and Media Technology academic at the Namibia University of Science & Technology (NUST). Previously taught at the University of Botswana, Media Studies Department. Before joining full time academia, Wanja was a writer and sub-editor with the Nation Media Group in Kenya. Storylines included on GBV, women and children, human rights, science, HIV & AIDS, poverty, fashion et al. Other areas of story telling include birding, journalism ethics, journalists right, among others. Currently occassionally writes and edits for varied media. As a journalist, she has been a recipient of many journalism fellowships and awards among others, Co-Overall Winner of CNN African Journalist of the Year Award (2000) and the award’s judge in 2015 & 2016, John S. Knight Journalism Fellowship (Stanford University, USA), William Star Journalism Fellowship and Third Millennium Human Rights Fellowship (Harvard University). Others are IJNET June 2011 Journalist of the Month and 2009, Runner-Up Bessie Head Creative Writing Competition in Botswana. A HIV & AIDS Behavioural Communication Researcher, Wanja has a PhD in Media Studies (University of Namibia), Masters in Public Administration (Harvard University, USA), Masters in Communication (Daystar University, Kenya) a Bachelor of Communication (Messiah College, USA) a Post Graduate Certificate of Higher Education (NUST) and Post Graduate Certificate of Research Methods (RGU).
