Prof. Sandro Scandolo coordinates the Research Division of the Abdus Salam Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy. He is also the Deputy Secretary General of the International Union for Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP).  He has been a Professor of Condensed Matter Physics at the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) until 2002 and visiting research staff at Princeton University between 2000 and 2002. He is an expert in the computational modelling of materials with atomistic methods. His papers have been cited more than 30,000 times. He has served as the Chair of the IUPAP Commission of "Physics for Development" from 2014 to 2017. He was elected Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2016.
