Niel Swanepoel currently an intern at the development consulting firm, Genesis Analytics, where his projects focus on the role of technology in African development. Earlier this year, he served as a South African Youth Delegate to G20, working on youth-centred policy recommendations that were advocated for and presented to G20 Heads of State. He also completed an internship at the United Nations in Namibia, where he worked on several SDG advocacy projects. Niel volunteered as a reporter at the South African parliament and served as a 2021 IMF Youth Fellow – which brought together young leaders to participate in training sessions led by IMF experts. Niel is a 2021 graduate from the University of Cape Town, where his research focused on public diplomacy and China-Africa relations. At university, he served in several leadership positions that developed his interest and commitment to diplomacy and youth empowerment.
