Dr. Feyi Wayas has a Ph.D. in Food Security. Her primary research interests are in assessing and improving the food and built environment to alleviate food insecurity, obesity, physical inactivity, especially in vulnerable groups and underserved communities for a healthier lifestyle and lower risk to NCDs. Her secondary research interest is on better understanding factors associated with the prevalence of, and treatments of substance use disorders (SUDs) in South Africa for interventions. She is passionate about community-based participatory research such as the citizen science approach. She is an NIH-Fogarty Global Health Equity Scholar(GHES) fellow, a member of the Global Diet Activity Research(GDAR) Network, Golden Key International Honour Society, Our Voice Global Research Network, Africa Food Environment Research Network (FERN) and Africa Science Leadership Programme (ASLP).
